 Classroom Reminders:

  • There will be no school on Monday, May 31st in observance of Memorial Day.

  • With the weather being sometimes unpredictable, please make sure to check the forecast daily and pack and dress your child accordingly. Rainboots and rain jackets allow us to enjoy the outdoors even if there is rain! We also encourage you to check your child’s extra clothes bag for appropriate sizes and styles to match the season!

  • Please make sure your child packs their water bottle every day.

  • The last day of school, Tuesday, June 15th, will be a half day.

Important District Reminder:

  • As the end of the school year approaches, we want to alert families that ALL K-8 school-provided devices - Chromebooks or iPads and their respective charging cords - need to be returned to school by June 10th. Most of these devices, which pre-COVID were always in the buildings, have been going back and forth between school and home, and in some cases, remaining at home, for more than a year. Our industrious IT staff needs to access each and every device to check on the status and condition and provide any needed repairs. Please return all devices, along with the charging cord, to your child’s classroom teacher(s) by June 10th.

If your child will be participating in a summer school-based program that requires a Chromebook, one will be provided to them at that time. Other possible device needs for the summer will be determined soon and a check-out system will be in place. Watch for future communications!

Thank you for your help and understanding.

Math: Second grade mathematicians worked hard this week to solve story problems. To solve a story problem, students need an equation that matches the problem, to show their work/thinking, and answer the question in a complete sentence. Students worked on using strategies to solve story problems! Throughout the year, we have worked on time and money. These are two skills that require lots of practice.

Each morning, we use our calendar to practice math concepts. This month, we are working with numbers to solve a Hidden Picture problem. The kangaroo, Joey, is hoping after something. We are solving problems to color in our number chart to figure out what it will be. We have been making predictions about what the final picture will show. Second graders wanted to share the picture with their families to see if families had predictions, too!

Writing: We have begun our opinion writing unit! Second graders have a lot of opinions and are ready to share them with the world! During our first bend of instruction, we are focusing on drafting letters about characters. They are working to hook their reader with an introduction, state their opinion and provide reasons using details and examples from the text.

Reading: Second graders are becoming series book experts! We are enjoying our series books, reading them with a partner, and then working in a series book club to talk about and share our series. Students are also working to understand the plots of the books they are reading. We are working hard to use all that we have learned this year to grow our understanding!
