Math: Second graders are measuring up a storm! This week, we have learned about the need for, and part of the origin of, uniform measurement. We worked with feet (Mr. Pierson’s feet), yards (giant feet) and inches (our own head circumference).
Reading: We are in book clubs! To become experts on characters, we are working in clubs in which all members are reading the same series. It’s been fun reading, learning, and talking about our books together!
Word Study: This week in word study our second graders continued their work with double vowel syllable types. During their practice they worked on combining syllable types to read and write longer words. In addition to this students also practiced writing and recognizing homophones.
Writing: Second grade writers are eagerly learning how to write a friendly letter! We have discussed the important parts of a friendly letter including, the date, a greeting, the body, a closing, and your signature. Second graders practiced including these parts by filling out a friendly letter template and then worked on creating their own friendly letters.
Science: In place of Science this week, we had a school wide celebration through various “Exploratories” hosted by the K-4 teachers. Students chose an activity of their liking, such as games, painting, dancing, building, and more. During this time students were able to enjoy time, fun, relaxation, and friendship with others.
